Roger Shaw Chief Executive Managing Director
|
Roger was born in England where he received his degree in Mechanical Engineering. While still living in the UK in the 1970's, he became involved with computers; the workings and potential of which fascinated him. His involvement with computers resulted in him coming to South Africa on contract with Edgars to build a distribution centre in Isipingo and set up a computerised system.
In 1985 he established his own company, Rogetronics Computer Services. Here he provided a service to clients like Standard bank, Iscor and Caltex.
A turning point was reached in 1989 when he was asked to enhance an existing Customs Clearing programme. Instead he developed a new programme. This is how Clearing Support Services (CSS) was born. CSS was formed in April 1990. Warwick Butcher in Cape Town produced a wealth of information for the programme from his back ground in the freight and shipping industry. Roger is chief executive of Clearing Support Services, which covers Johannesburg and Durban areas and also extends into Zimbabwe and Botswana.
Roger is married to Carol and they have one daughter, Gail. Gail attended Rhodes University in Grahamstown where she received a degree in computer sciences but decided to do her own thing outside of CSS.
If you can tear Roger away from the computer, he enjoys sailing his 48ft yacht in Durban harbour and tinkering on his vintage sports cars when there is no formula one racing on the TV. At the beginning of the 2001 season Roger was very fortunate to have attended the Australian Grand Prix which he thoroughly enjoyed.
